Alea
Paolo Piva & CR & S Varenna (2003)
(for Poliform Varenna)

The primary form. Rigorous design for a new definition of the kitchen. A project by Paolo Piva formal connotation "minimal": to convert every practical unit into sheer design, essential forms, maintaining the highest operational capacity.

The aesthetic concept of Alea is linked to the strong prominence which singles out every composition, every element, and which is at times an edge frame structure. Containers, work plans, operational areas to the wall or island become real "solid" geometric surfaces which enhance the individual materials. In any Alea detail brings out the design of "shaping" a new concept of the kitchen.-

Gota Dishwasher Is Designed to Recycle Water

Eco-Friendly Mini Appliances

Designer Ibsen Caldas has designed the Gota, a nifty little dishwasher that can fit on any tabletop. It may have the look of an alien spaceship, but the sleek design is certainly an upgrade from most tabletop dishwashers. More importantly, this little device conserves water by recycling pre-wash water for use in later cycles.
Eco-Friendly Mini Appliances
Eco-Friendly Mini Appliances
Implications - The way the Gota works is by steaming the dishes in the pre-wash cycle and then using its own recycling method to use up the residual H2O left from the steam. The body of the dishwasher is made out of ABS polycarbonate and will last the owner plenty of years. This eco-friendly method is not only great for the environment, but also great for your hydro bill!

Strength of purpose

Kitchen designer : Keith Sheedy, Focal Kitchens (Armadale, Vic)
Cabinetry : Stained oak veneer; two-pack polyurethane in White
Cabinetry hardware : Blum
Storage systems : Kesseböhmer
Benchtops and splashback : Custom in stainless steel and marble

When a kitchen is located near the middle of an interior, well away from the windows, finding ways to lighten the space is important. And if the owner is a professional caterer the need is even greater.
This was the scenario when designer Keith Sheedy came to this kitchen project. The long warehouse space was flooded with light at one end but the central kitchen was too small and too dark. This was partly due to the choice of blackbutt for the walls as well as the floors, says Sheedy.

"First, we stripped out the old kitchen and a media room – repurposing the latter volume to add a spacious new scullery and a walk-in cool room.
"To lighten the area, I had the ceiling and walls painted white and added cabinets and solid marble benchtops in the same tone. The grey-veined stone picks up the white of the main cabinetry and connects with the stained oak veneer of the tall wall cabinets and the under-bench island cabinetry."

Stainless steel was used for its light-reflecting properties and its durability on the rear benchtop and for the toekicks, says the designer.

Several aspects of the new kitchen were led by the owner's professional needs. As she can be preparing meals for up to 50 people at a time, and at speed, plenty of foot room and bench space were required.
"The walk-in scullery offers valuable storage and generous work surfaces," says Sheedy. "And a cool room brings the added flexibility that's essential when catering for groups, large and small."
Every aspect of the kitchen has to stand up to frequent prolonged use. Sheedy had the stainless steel benchtop and cooktop welded together in Italy, ensuring the trivets are flush with the work surface. This clean look is continued with an integrated rangehood under the upper cabinetry.
The kitchen also had to blend with the living area in aesthetic terms, says Sheedy.

Schaub & Company-USA

1998 - Founders, Bob and Marcia Schaub started Schaub & Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Having worked in the cabinet hardware industry for many years, the Schaubs saw a need for a different kind of company, one focused on service, availability, quality, and unique designs.

The service of the company was based on a small family of employees who knew every product and could quickly help any customer. Further, those products were (and are) available to customers in a timely manner. Schaub cabinet hardware products have a quick turnaround from order to shipping and delivery. And each product is the highest of quality in design and manufacturing.

2006 - The drive to constantly create and design beautiful hardware is what led Schaub & Company to release the Symphony line. Symphony was unlike anything the cabinet hardware industry had seen in generations. The designs were bold and beautiful with aspects like precious inlays and intricate details. The Symphony line continues to be the most imaginative hardware in the market.

2010 - Brought another new partnership for Schaub with ASSA ABLOY. ASSA ABLOY has been the leader in door opening solutions for many years and provided Schaub & Company the opportunity to grow and reach more people with their designs. The partnership was a natural step and Schaub & Company continues to strive to create the best products for its customers. ASSA ABLOY is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, and has extensive operations worldwide. Schaub has affiliated companies in the U.S. including Emtek, Sargent, Medeco, Arrow, Curries, McKinney, Securitron, H.E.S., Graham, Yale, Corbin-Russwin, Rixson, Norton, Folger-Adams, PEMKO and Adams Rite.
